Melbourne being a relatively small town during this period, we didn’t have a lot of name entertainment. There was an occasional concert at the civic auditorium that would feature some celebrities but not that often.
 This one particular concert was to feature the King Family.
The Royal Motor Lodge happened to be the hotel where they would be staying. Of course, the staff was excited to have celebrities of this status staying on property.
The King Family had their own TV show that featured the entire family. At this time, one of the daughters was also on the TV show My Three Sons.
At any rate, we were all wondering if they would be coming into the lounge. Of course we asked our staff to please respect their privacy and not bug them about autographs or pictures.
Well, as it turned out, they didn’t come into the lounge to enjoy our entertainment. They did ask if they could use Larry’s piano to practice a song during the day, but then didn’t show.
Well, we went to their concert and enjoyed it as I knew we would. After observing a family of this size, traveling from city to city, I can’t imagine trying to make a living like that.
Just think about it. Would you want to travel with all your sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and whatever else? That’s just too many people to keep organized.
That might explain why they weren’t all that friendly.
