The First Jam Session

Sometime toward the end of 1970, we were having one of our many family cookouts which included many of the neighbors. After the cookout we would usually gather around and play music.

I had a friend who played guitar and he had a friend that played the fiddle. I invited Larry to join us.

I don’t know how many people realize Larry was married before we got married. His previous wife Jean came with him and listened as we played music for a good part of a Saturday evening. Jean admittedly, was not musically inclined, but seemed to enjoy the fun we were having.

Although, I don’t think she really had as much fun as the musicians. I would like to add, that even though Larry and Jean obviously separated and divorced, we still have a good friendship today.

They both admitted they married too young and their lives went in different directions. Jean is married to a wonderful man, Charlie and they live in Sebastian near her parents and sister.

I wanted to acknowledge their marriage and mention the relationship Larry had with her parents. They have always treated him like a son and me very graciously. Jean never attended any other jam sessions.
